Kim, Hong Do (1745-1816)


 

Introduction

Kim, Hong-do was a native of Kimhae and used a variety of pen names, including the most noted Tanwon. His career once reached the position of magistrate. He was much engrossed in art with liberal thought and manner. He excelled in landscape, human figures, flowers, and birds. His versatile painting rendered a number of masterpieces, showing his unrestricted mindedness and exciting brush stroke. His biography says, "The appearance and attitude of Tanwon is bearutiful and he is called a highly lofty individual in the mundane, He is unfettered with worldly affairs and has quite a gracious character."
